Guidelines for Visitors to Gabriel House
We want you to enjoy your time at Gabriel House and in Mexico so there are a few things that come to mind that will help make your time here more enjoyable.
These guidelines need to be taken seriously if you are going to visit Gabriel House both for your own safety and that of the kids. They apply to our Mexican national visitors as well as our American and Canadian visitors.
We ask that our visitors do not wear dangling jewelry or large dangling piercings for your own safety. Please tie long hair back in a ponytail. Some of our kids may be interested in your long hair or jewelry and give it a yank.
Do not give our children candy, watches, jewelry, money, sunglasses, cameras, tablets, or cell phones. Some of our kids are on restricted diets, and since no one is able to give all the kids the same gifts, it is best not to give to any of them.
We are Christians and we have an obligation to reflect our values to the world around us. For this reason we ask that you do not wear clothing that reveals any part of your underwear. See through fabric and are not allowed. Ladies, please, do not show breast cleavage, and men do not show rear cleavage or your underwear.
No one is to go anywhere alone with one of our children; you must walk with another adult person. This is for safety in case one of our children has a seizure, one adult can stay with the children and the other adult can return to Gabriel House for help.
If you go for walks you are to walk only on the north/south street next to Gabriel House and only two blocks either way and under no circumstances go up to the main highway.
Enjoy playing with the kids but please do not use the children’s wheelchairs or have wheelchair races with the children. If they lose control, they could be seriously injured.
If minor children, under the age of 12, come with the group, they must be attended by an adult at all times. Please have one adult for every two minor children under the age of 12.
Children under the age of 12 years are not allowed to hold our children. Some of our kids are big and don’t know how to handle themselves in a way that keeps everyone safe.
If you are not a Mexican citizen you are required by the Mexican DMV to stop before you reach the Mexican border and purchase Mexican car insurance, with legal coverage. If you only have Mexican car insurance, and do not purchase the additional legal coverage for Mexico, and you get in an accident, you will be jailed until it is decided who caused the accident. I hope this is clear about car insurance. There are two components to the Mexican insurance that are a must for motorists in Mexico: 1. Mexican liability insurance. 2. Mexican auto legal coverage.
Please do not make the mistake of thinking that your US insurance will be sufficient.
That can mean many days, even weeks in Mexican jail. Certainly not a fun way to spend your time in Mexico.
You must have a border crossing card or a passport in order to visit Mexico. You must also stop at the Tijuana border crossing and obtain a visitors visa. the time frame changes from time to time. You can get the most current number of days allowed without a visa, by calling the Mexican consulate in San Diego, visa division, at 619 308 9953.
You will need a US passport to return to the States.
Because of the illegal child sex trafficking, you may not bring minor children that are not part of your immediate family across the border without a notarized permission from their parent(s).
We strongly recommend that visitors consider obtaining travelers’ medical insurance that can be obtained on the web.
Visitors, please use guest bathroom located in the hallway of the main house and outsideto far left , only. Remember you are in Mexico and do not flush toilet paper, use the waste basket provided. Yes, that’s right, we don’t flush toilet paper in Mexico.
Do not drink faucet water, it is contaminated and you will get sick if not very sick. Please only drink bottled water, you will enjoy your stay much more.
When you plan your visit to Gabriel House, please give us a three week notice. The date you want to come may already be taken. This gives us time to work out another date that is suitable for your visit.
Used clothing is considered contraband by the Mexican authorities. You can loose your vehicle or have it impounded costing over $1,000.00 or more in impound fees to retrieve it, and a lot of red tape and trips to the Mexican border.
Enjoy your time at Gabriel House and in Mexico!
