Thelma:
Thelma, what can I say about Thelma except that we love her.
Thelma was born February 11, 1998 with multiple birth defects; given up by her parents and shuffled around until she came to Gabriel House three years ago. She doesn’t walk or talk. Extreme lack of human contact in her earliest years has thwarted some of the potential she may have had to develop more fully both mentally and physically.
Thelma throws a ball and tries to catch one. She is fascinated with the birds in the aviary in our play yard but her favorite thing is getting hugs and giving them. If you walk too close to her she will quickly capture your clothing in order to get a hug and then will capture your heart. She is full and love and very lovable.
I tell you about Thelma not to make you sad for her but to tell you that deep inside everyone of our children is a soul and a spirit. Their bodies may not be perfect but there is a person living inside with the same emotional needs as we all have.
Poverty and lack of education are the culprits in Thelma’s situation and that is why we need to get to the Thelma’s of Mexico earlier and provide therapy, good nutrition, love and human contact from birth.
Please pray for the best life possible for Thelma and that the Lord will help us to reach more of the children in Mexico who need us. These precious ones need our love both emotionally and physically.
